Distance Education Frequently Asked Questions
How do I contact various offices at Wor-Wic Community College?
How is a distance learning course different from a regular in-class course?
As a distance learning student, you will work more independently than is typical for regular
in-class courses. Online students may or may not have face to face meetings with their instructors.
The rest of the time, you will study on your own. This also means that you are much more
responsible for your own success by structuring your own time, meeting deadlines, and completing
assignments. To learn more about being an online student, go to Online Strategies.
What is an online course?
An online course is one that is delivered through the computer. To participate in Wor-Wic's online
classes, you need a Macintosh with OS8 or higher or personal computer with Windows 95, or higher,
access to the Internet, an electronic mail address, Netscape 4.0 or higher or Internet Explorer 4.0
or higher and basic Internet familiarity.
How do I take a credit online course?
Register as you do for any credit course. After you have registered, email your instructor. You will
be required to participate in an on-campus orientation. You can buy your books and study guides at the
College Bookstore. During the semester, make sure that you complete the assignments and exams on time.
What are the costs?
Tuition and fees for a distance learning course are the same as any credit course.
Where can I purchase the books for the distance learning courses?
You may purchase your books at Wor-Wic's campus bookstore. For hours of operation or other information,
call 410-543-4655. Distance Learning courses usually require special textbooks which include a student
ID number, unlike those used in the regular credit course.
How do I access Wor-Wic's library services from off-campus?
To access Wor-Wic's library services from off-campus, go to the Library Resources'
database page.
What is required in a distance learning course?
Read the textbook and do other assignments, papers and projects as required. Examinations are required
in all distance learning courses. Exams are given on-campus. Please note on the course syllabus the
deadlines for taking examinations.
Will a distance learning course show up on my transcript differently than a traditional course?
There is no indication on a student's record that a course was a distance learning course. Therefore,
a receiving institution does not know when a student has taken a course through distance learning.
