Details James Allen HallDr. James Allen Hall's first book of poems, Now You're the Enemy, won awards from the Lambda Literary Foundation, the Texas Institute of Letters, and the Fellowship of Southern Writers. He'll be reading from a newly-published collection of lyric personal essays—so, creative nonfiction—called I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well. The collection won the 2017 Essay Collection Award, judged by Chris Kraus, and was published by Cleveland State University Poetry Center Press. Essays from I Liked You Better Before I Knew You So Well confront issues of surviving sexual assault, the AIDS pandemic, and growing up queer in a particularly colorful family. Dr. Hall is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the University of Arizona Poetry Center, and the BreadLoaf and Sewanee Writers' Conferences. He is an associate professor of English and teaches creative writing and literature classes at Washington College, where he also directs the Rose O'Neill Literary House.
