Education

Dr. Allison S. Bartlett is an Associate Professor of English at Wor-Wic. Hailing from the Midwest, Dr. Bartlett received a BA in English from the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

After moving to New York City and falling short of becoming Broadway’s newest musical comedy sensation, she returned to her love of literature, deciding to pursue a Master's degree in English at Georgetown University. Her inter-disciplinary focus while there was on Medieval Studies (affectionately known as her degree in knights and ladies and castles and dragons!!).

At Catholic University, she earned a PhD in English Literature with a major emphasis in late-medieval and early-Renaissance British narrative poetry (lively allegorical and symbolic journeys through all kinds of wildernesses) and a minor emphasis in Rhetoric and Composition (the various and creative methods by which orators and writers meet differing challenges involving various topics and audiences).

While at Wor-Wic, she has earned a Certificate in Online Education from UCLA (later developing the first online English composition course), and has also taken several graduate classes Children's Literature as well as in Communication.

Work Experience

Prior to coming to Wor-Wic, Dr. Bartlett taught at the University of Missouri @ Kansas City and at Rockhurst College in Kansas City, MO; at Loyola College in Baltimore, MD; and at Catholic University and Mount Vernon College in Washington, DC.

Several odd coincidences have taken her from Alexandria, VA, where she served as a technical writer for the U.S. Postal Service’s Stamp Division; through Wheeling, WV, wholly due to the recommendations of Places Rated Almanac; and finally to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, where she intends to stay.

When she is not teaching, you might find her reading practically anything, as well as trying out another gourmet recipe, learning a new computer program, or listening to the birds, ducks, and geese, and REALLY loud bullfrogs that have taken up residence in or around the pond outside her apartment.

Community Services / Committees

Dr. Bartlett holds the office of President of the Maryland Collegiate Honors Council, and serves on its Executive Board.

Dr. Bartlett is a permanent member of the Wor-Wic's Honors Committee; she also currently serves on the College's Assessment Committee, is an adviser for the _Echoes & Visions_ Editorial Board, and is a long-time editor of _Echoes & Visions_, Wor-Wic's award-winning literary magazine.
