New Small Business Courses Offered in October

New small business courses are being offered this fall by the office of community and continuing education at Wor-Wic Community College and the Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The courses are designed to help established and prospective business owners learn more about starting and managing a small business.

“How to Start Your Own Consulting Business” will cover the components of a consulting contract, pricing services, record keeping, taxes, liability, entities, financing and marketing personal expertise. The class will meet on Friday, Oct. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the SBDC office in Salisbury.

Gain a better understanding of employee recruitment, selection, placement, compensation and retention, as well as personnel records and legal issues, by taking “Human Resources Basics: Staffing Your Small Business.” The class will meet on Thursdays, Oct. 12 and 19, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., at the SBDC office.

“Financial Analysis for the Small Business” will cover accounting for inventory, depreciation, notes and dividends, and preparing and interpreting common financial reports. The class will meet on Mondays, Oct. 23 through Nov. 20, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the college campus.

Learn to use planning and strategic vision to apply marketing tools effectively within a reasonable budget by taking “Big Business Marketing on a Small Business Budget.” The class will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the SBDC office.

“Stretching Your Advertising Dollars: How to Utilize Radio, TV and Print Media to the Max” will cover improving media relations, developing media contacts, communicating with press releases and handling interviews. The class will meet on Thursday, Nov. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the SBDC office.
