The office of community and continuing education at Wor-Wic Community College is offering continuing education and new general interest courses in real estate this winter.

Anyone interested in becoming a real estate appraiser can learn about real estate values, the valuation process and appraisal concepts by taking “Real Estate: Principles of Appraising,” the first in a series of three pre-licensure courses. The class will meet on Mondays and Thursdays, Feb. 7 through March 14, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m, at the college campus on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

“Landlord/Tenant Relations: Rent, Rights and Responsibilities” is general interest course designed to help anyone learn about tax concepts for real estate, resident screening techniques, resident retention strategies, fair housing and rental agreement laws, and basic maintenance of rental property. The class will meet on Saturday, Feb. 19, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the college’s Berlin-Ocean City Instructional Center in Berlin.

Maryland real estate licensees can meet fair housing and legislative issues requirements by taking “Fair Housing for Real Estate Professionals” on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., or “Tax Regulations: Sale or Exchange of a Principal Residence” on Thursday, Feb. 24, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Both courses will meet at the college campus. The fair housing course is designed to help real estate professionals gain a greater familiarity with the federal and Maryland fair housing laws. The tax course is designed to help real estate professionals learn more about the exclusion of gain from the sales or exchange of a principal residence.
