Jail and Correctional Officers Graduate

Thirty jail and correctional officers from Wicomico, Somerset, Caroline and Talbot counties graduated in the 58th entrance-level class of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA) operated by Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury.

Graduation exercises, which were held in Guerrieri Hall on the college campus, featured a commencement address by Michael D. Gray, department head and professor of criminal justice at Wor-Wic.

James M. Beatty Sr., director of the ESCJA, presided at the ceremony. Mona L. White of the Eastern Correctional Institution was the class speaker. Gloria A. Herndon, administrator of correctional training for the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in Woodstock, Md., gave the closing remarks. Awards of excellence were presented by agency representatives.

In addition to White, graduates included Oscar C. Arce, Victor Rivera and Tucker T. William of the Wicomico County Department of Corrections, Scott A. Bauswell, Henria C. Bowen, Joan D. Brown, Randolph Byrd III, Harry E. Conklin III, Linda M. Harmon, John B. Johnson, Krista L. Labo, Tina L. Lankford, James A. Lockwood, Phyllis M. Murray, Scott J. Persinger, Petra R. Purnell, Richard J. Quillen, Kisha L. Riddick-Collins, Judy K. Robinson, Melissa D. Sample, Cherleeta D. Strand, Christopher J. Swanson, Bruce D. Tull, Thomas A. Twilley, Anissa Washington, Mona L. White and Tyanda N. White of the ECI in Princess Anne, Orlondo J. Taylor of the Somerset County Detention Center, Carroll G. Hetrick of the Caroline County Jail and Detention Center and April S. Chapman of the Talbot County Detention Center.
