Online Writing and Publishing Courses Begin Oct. 20

Wor-Wic Community College is offering online business writing and publishing courses this fall. Topics include marketing and technical writing, and owning and operating a publishing business.

Learn how to translate technical information into a more easily understood language by taking "Fundamentals of Technical Writing." This course covers the research process, layout and documentation skills, as well as technical writing conventions, interviewing skills, and electronic and paper publications.

"Effective Business Writing" is designed to help students identify and eliminate problems in the writing, editing and proofreading stages. This course also covers using the appropriate tone in all forms of written communication, including e-mail.

Discover ways to write well-structured documents with clarity and accuracy that reflect a company's business and marketing objectives by taking "Business Marketing Writing." This course also focuses on issues such as buzzwords, teamwork, media, image, internal communication and marketing ethics.

"Publish It Yourself: How to Start and Operate Your Own Publishing Business" is designed to help students learn about self-publishing, how to set up a publishing company, current trends in the publishing industry and how to develop alternate income sources. This course also covers hardware and software, pricing and profitability, copyrights, publicity, advertising and shipping.

Other online courses in resume writing, effective editing, creativity training, Internet writing markets and grant writing are also being offered.

Each course begins on Wednesday, Oct. 20, and can be completed in six weeks.
