Wor-Wic Board Awards 12 Scholarships

The board of trustees of Wor-Wic Community College recently awarded scholarships to 12 local high school graduates.

This year’s scholarship recipients include Ashley Bailey from Parkside High School, Megan Barnes from Washington High School, Niccole Carew from Holly Grove Christian School, Tabitha Caserta from Stephen Decatur High School, Tim Chesley from Mardela Middle and High School, Kasey Cowger from Pocomoke High School, Justin George from Ocean City Christian School, Anisha Handy from Wicomico High School, Randie Hovatter from Delmar Junior-Senior High School, Brooke Johnson from Snow Hill High School, Chelsea Thomas from James M. Bennett High School and Bethany Ward from Crisfield High School.

The board of trustees provides a full-tuition scholarship of up to 18 hours per semester for the most academically-talented high school senior applicant from each of the 10 public high schools and two of the four private high schools in Worcester, Wicomico and Somerset counties.

In order to qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have at least a 3.25 GPA on an unweighted 4.0 scale. They must also apply for admission to Wor-Wic before April 1 of their senior year in high school, as well as complete a board of trustees scholarship application form.

The scholarships are awarded to the applicant with the highest GPA from each school, followed by the highest total number of credits earned and the earliest admission application. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and enroll in consecutive fall and spring semesters in order to receive the scholarship for four semesters.
