July 31, 2007

The public is invited to dedication ceremonies for the new Workforce Development Center (WDC) at Wor-Wic Community College on Wednesday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m., on the college campus at Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

State and county elected officials are expected to join members of the board of trustees, students, alumni, employees and other friends of the college for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, refreshments and tours of the building.

Wor-Wic's business department, and continuing education and workforce development division, will be moving into the new building from the existing Academic and Administrative Building (AAB). In addition to office space for continuing education employees, the first floor of the new building features a specially-designed lecture room that can be set up as one large room or three smaller classrooms.

The college's hotel-motel-restaurant management (HMR) department will also be moving into this new building from the Berlin-Ocean City Instructional Center in Berlin. The third floor of the new building features a state-of-the-art culinary and HMR laboratories with kitchen, dining room and bar areas that will provide modern "hands-on" equipment and instructional space for students majoring in HMR or the new culinary arts options that the college is offering this fall. The second floor features computer laboratories, a resource center, classrooms and study spaces, as well as offices for business and HMR employees.

The general contractor for the $15 million project was the Whiting-Turner Contracting Co., and the building was designed by CSD Architects of Baltimore.
