Law Enforcement Class Graduates

Nineteen law enforcement officers from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Dorchester, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties graduated in the 59th entrance-level class of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA) operated by Wor-Wic Community College at the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

Graduation exercises, which were held in Guerrieri Hall at the college campus, featured a commencement address by Chief Michael L. Tabor of the Crisfield Police Department.

James M. Beatty Sr., Wor-Wic’s director of criminal justice, presided at the ceremony. Awards of certification and excellence were presented by Lee E. Goldman, deputy director of training and certification of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions in Woodstock, Md., and various agency representatives. Joseph P. Zurla of the Ocean City Police Deprtment was the class speaker. Closing remarks were made by Goldman.

In addition to Zurla, graduates included Richard S. Pizzaia of the Salisbury Police Department, John C. Herbert Jr., Edwin L. Pauley III and Jerome T. Weldon Jr. of the Fruitland Police Department, Joseph A. Centofranchi, Michael J. Kelly and James S. Runkles of the Ocean City Police Department, Donald G. Shortt of the Snow Hill Police Department, Robert D. Korb Jr. and Matthew W. Owens of the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office, and James A. Crockett and Walter T. Jones of the Crisfield Police Department.

Upper Shore graduates included Harold W. Dukes of the Cambridge Police Department, Howard E. Eveland of the Chestertown Police Department, and Michael B. Buckius, Cheyenne J. Chase, Marlene U. McCue and Matthew C. Minton of the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office.
