Cotton Club Java Scheduled for Feb. 5

Cotton Club Java, a free African-American history month celebration, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m., in Guerrieri Hall at Wor-Wic Community College at the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.

Historian, activist and entertainer, Chris Haley, will give a presentation called “Black History in Maryland, and All That Jazz,” which provides a perspective on how history connects with music.

Haley is director of research for the study of the legacy of slavery at the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis. He is also the executive director of the Utopia Film Festival, which is held in Greenbelt, Md.

Haley is a speaker and writer and has performed on stage and film. In addition, he has directed and produced films.
