Self-Discovery
Self-discovery is the first step in choosing your career. Assessments are the tools that will help you
create your unique personal profile. Information is gathered about yourself through the use of formal
and informal assessments that will include strength and interest inventories and personality assessments.
Informal assessments can be done by talking with family members, friends, co-workers and teachers. They
can describe qualities and characteristics they see in you. Formal assessments are completed in Career
Services using such resources as the Self-Directed Search by John Holland, Myers-Briggs, and e-Discover,
a computerized career guidance system.
