Graduation and Commencement Information

Wor-Wic conducts one commencement ceremony each year. This ceremony is a celebratory recognition of the accomplishments of students earning an associate degree or certificate of proficiency. Students who want to participate in the commencement ceremony must complete the application for graduation and pay the graduation fee prior to the ceremony. Students are eligible to participate if they have completed the requirements for their degree or certificate at the end of the fall semester or if they are completing the requirements for their degree or certificate at the end of the spring semester. Students completing in the summer can also participate if they have nine credits or less remaining, they have registered for their remaining course work and they have met all other graduation requirements prior to the ceremony. Please review the material here and in the catalog to determine your eligibility for graduation. It is recommended that students meet with their academic advisor to conduct a degree audit to determine graduation eligibility.

• Requirements for Graduation with Associate Degree
  • Completion of Application for Graduation. Return completed form to the Registrar’s Office AAB 109.
  • Payment of the $20 fee to the cashier’s office (save your receipt).
  • At least 60 credit hours with a “C” (2.00) grade point average or better;
  • A minimum of 24 credits completed at Wor-Wic, including the student's final 15 credit hours (unless an exception is approved by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs);
  • At least 20 credits in general education courses for an associate of applied science degree and 30 credits for an associate of arts or associate of science degree;
  • At least 24 credits directly related to the occupation in vocational and technical programs; and
  • Complete the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP).

  • Completion of specific program requirements
  • A “C” (2.00) grade point average or better; and
  • A minimum of 40 percent of the required courses completed at Wor-Wic (unless an exception is approved by the Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs).

  • Handicap Guest Seating: Graduates are asked to inform the Student Activities department about any guests that require floor seating due to a handicap. Send us an email to inform us.
  • Honors: Students who complete this requirement are recognized in the commencement program. Are you interested in the Honors program?
  • Invitations: Guests are not required to have an invitation to enter the Normandy Room. Five free announcements are mailed to students to send to family and friends for informational purposes only. Additional invitations are also available at a cost of $10 for 6 at the cashier’s office. Students are allowed to bring as many guests as they wish.
  • List of Graduates: If your name is not on the list or is spelled incorrectly, please notify the Registrar. No list is available at this time.
  • Personal Items: Do not bring personal items into the Normandy Room. There are no storage areas available and Wor-Wic personnel cannot hold personal items.

  • PTK: If you will need a PTK tassel and/or stole, please complete the PTK Tassel and Stole Form.

  • Reception: Cake and punch will be served in the rear of the Normandy Room directly following the commencement ceremony.

  • Fees: A $20 fee is charged for your diploma prior to commencement at the cashier’s office. You will receive your actual diploma eight weeks after commencement. The diploma cover you receive on the stage on commencement will not contain your diploma.   When must I pay my $20 fee?

  The deadline to pay the $20 fee is the third Friday in April.

  What is Commencement?

  Commencement is the formal ceremony recognizing students who have completed the requirements for an associate degree or certificate of proficiency. The ceremony is a wonderful celebration of a student’s accomplishments.

  When should I apply for graduation?

  It is highly recommended that a student complete the application for graduation one semester prior to his/her expected completion date. Students who wish to participate in commencement must pay the graduation fee by the third Friday in April 2010. This deadline is very important and must be met if a student is to be included in the commencement program. The graduation application must be submitted to the registrar in AAB 109. The form can be located in the registrar's office and on the college website. Look for student forms under the Student Services located on the home page. The form is called: Application for Degree Recommendation.

  How do I know if I’m ready to graduate?

  Where do I find the application for graduation?

  The application can be downloaded from our Graduation and Commencement Information page or found in the Student Services Office in AAB 109. The form cannot be submitted electronically.

  Where do I get my cap and gown?

  How many guests can I invite to the ceremony?

  At this time the number of guest you invite is unlimited.

  Where do I get graduation announcements/invitations?

  Students who pay the $20 fee will be mailed five free announcements. Additional announcements can be purchased in bundles of 10 for $6.00 each.

  What can I do with my personal item during the ceremony?

  There is no place for the civic center or for Wor-Wic staff to store your personal items. We strongly suggest leaving such items in your vehicle or with a family member.

  When will I get my diploma?

  Diplomas will be mailed approximately 8 weeks after the commencement ceremony.

  I don’t want to attend commencement. Can I still get my diploma?

  Students who wish to receive a diploma must pay the graduation fee. Diplomas are ordered for students whose graduation has been confirmed by the registrar’s office, at the end of each semester and session. Diplomas are mailed to graduates after they are received, approximately eight weeks after the graduation date.

  How do I register for the CAAP?

  Complete the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP).
