Learning Assistance Labs
Students who are enrolled in ENG 081, ENG 082, ENG 083, ENG 084, ENG 086, ENG 095, ENG 096, MTH 091,
MTH 092 or MTH 099 are required to attend the reading and writing center or mathematics laboratory,
where individualized instruction is provided during day, evening and weekend hours. Students can also
be referred by an administrator or faculty member, or they can attend on their own. Students can work
one-on-one with a tutor and/or complete computerized tutorial programs.
The Mathematics Lab
The Mathematics Laboratory offers individual and group tutoring, computerized tutorial programs, and
videotaped instruction from the developmental level through calculus.
Any other information can be obtained by calling the Mathematics Lab at 410-334-2818 or the
Mathematics and Science Department at 410-572-8720.
The Reading and Writing Center
The Reading and Writing Center, located in AAB 225, serves primarily as a developmental English laboratory. Students enrolled in ENG 081, ENG 082, ENG 083, ENG 084, ENG 086, ENG 095, and ENG 096 are required to complete assignments in the lab each week.
In addition, this laboratory also serves as a writing resource for students in other disciplines. Writing conferences are offered on a first-come, first serve basis. These ½-hour conferences can address any two the following concerns:
- Revising essays for adequate development
- Revising essays for coherence
- Generating ideas for an assignment
- Creating effective introductions and conclusions
- Answering specific questions about mechanics, grammar, or format style
Essays or assignments cannot be dropped off for proofreading or editing. Students should view the
Writing Center Conferences presentation
so that they are prepared for the experience.

Online Resources
There are many valuable writing resources available on the web. The following sites offer advice and/or exercises about writing:
The Testing Center
The Testing Center, located in AAB 226, monitors make-up and distance education tests for
current Wor-Wic students, administers diagnostic tests to prospective students, and
proctors exams for students taking distance education courses from other colleges or universities.
Academic Testing
Students enrolled in online courses may take all or some of their tests in the Testing Center.
Instructors usually provide a time period during which the test may be taken, and a student may
come in at any time during that period to complete the test. Take-home sections of tests may also
be dropped off in the Testing Center.
Make-up tests may also be left in the Testing Center. Instructors determine if a student is
eligible to take a make-up test. Before arriving at the center, the student should check with his
or her instructor to determine if a test has been delivered. Once a deadline has expired, a
student may not take that test until the instructor reissues the testing form. Moreover, all exams
must be returned to the proctor at the Center’s closing time, regardless of the time limit.
Students taking a make-up or diagnostic test must:
- Present a current school or government-issued photo ID.
- Provide the name of the instructor teaching the course.
- Provide the course name and section number.
- Identify the name of the test.
- Turn off cell phones and any electronic devices.
- Bring a pencil or pen as needed.
Additional guidelines for instructors and students appear in the links below.

Proctored Tests
Proctored testing is available for students who want to take exams from other institutions or
for professional organizations. A fee of $15 per examination is charged for the service.
Only currently enrolled Wor-Wic students are exempt from the charge. Students
must contact Wor-Wic’s Testing Center personnel before tests from other institutions will be
accepted.
Students taking a proctored exam from another institution must:
- Secure permission to take the test and establish a testing date with Testing Center personnel.
- Pay a $15 fee at the cashier's office, located on the first floor of the Academic and Administrative Building, and bring the signed form to the testing session.
- Provide a current school or government-issued photo ID.
- Provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope for mailing each paper test taken at the Center.
During testing, all electronic devices must be turned off and out of sight.
Students must complete and submit the following form before tests from other institutions will be accepted.
When the form has been received, the student will receive a confirmation email from the Testing Center. The confirmation email indicates that the student has been given permission to use Wor-Wic Community College as the proctor site.
- Establish a testing date and time with Testing Center personnel for each examination I plan to take.
- Pay a $15 fee at the cashier's office, located on the first floor of the Academic and Administrative Building, and bring the signed form to the testing session.
- Provide a current school or government-issued photo ID at time of testing.
- Provide a stamped, self-addressed envelope for mailing each paper test taken at the Center, if applicable.
