Mathew Boland of Ocean City graduated from Wor-Wic in May with his associate of applied science degree in radiologic technology. He was able to complete just enough clinical hours in the spring before sites closed to students due to the pandemic.

After taking the national licensure exam, he started his job search. “I thought it would be tough to find a job,” Boland said, “but a lot of places really need us.”

He accepted a position at Your Doc’s In the following month, and works at their locations in Salisbury, Pocomoke City and Ocean City. In addition to performing X-ray procedures, he said he does blood draws, EKGs, intramuscular injections, IVs and triage. “I do a little bit of everything,” he said. “I even do COVID swabs.”

Boland said he liked the friendly environment at Wor-Wic, where everyone was helpful and there were lots of resources to help him succeed. “I got lots of hands-on experience, which really helped me not be so nervous the first couple of weeks on the job — having that experience already really helped with my confidence,” he explained. “Plus, I learned a lot completing my clinicals at many locations around the shore.”

Although he just finished his degree in May, Boland is planning to return to Wor-Wic to pursue the new computed tomography certificate program because he is interested in working in that area in the future.
