EKG technicians use sophisticated technology to monitor the electrical activity of the human heart. To become an EKG technician, you must learn basic cardiac anatomy and terminology, how to operate an EKG machine, procedures for preparing and administering EKG tests, and gain knowledge of the different cardiac medications used to prevent and treat cardiac disease. Training includes clinical work where you will learn to practice the skills learned in class.

There are several requirements for those interested in registering for EKG technician courses, including a drug screen and background check.
