Student spotlight: Anthony Kelly

Anthony Kelly completed the veterinary assistant program in November 2025 and finished his clinical experience in January 2026. He found the online format intuitive and flexible, making it easy to balance learning with his schedule.

For his placement at Lotus Urgent Veterinary Hospital, Kelly had to complete 50 clinical hours. He was welcomed into a supportive environment where he could grow both personally and professionally. Under the mentorship of Dr. Yonas Mehari and his team, he gained hands-on experience administering vaccines, drawing blood, restraining patients, assisting in surgeries and dental procedures, preparing and sterilizing surgical instruments, and analyzing laboratory samples under the microscope.

“I’m very pleased I took this course and completed my clinical here,” Kelly reflected. “It allowed me to pursue what I’ve wanted to do since middle school.”

After completing his clinical hours, he was offered a position as a veterinary assistant, where he now assists with surgeries and dentals, gives injections and supports daily clinic operations.

“I was very impressed with Anthony,” Dr. Mehari explained. “He was very enthusiastic, eager to learn and well educated from his coursework during his clinical placement. He is a hard worker and listens to the clients carefully, showing empathy to the customers and patients. He has fit in well and is a good addition to our team.”
