Wor-Wic child development center adds prekindergarten class
Wor-Wic Community College will offer two prekindergarten classes for 3- and 4-year-olds this fall thanks to a grant from the Maryland State Department of Education (MDSE).
Wor-Wic hosts Horizons Delmarva students
A group of sixth- to ninth-grade students attended a six-week summer learning program at Wor-Wic Community College thanks to a partnership with Horizons Delmarva, a program that provides low-income public school students from Wicomico and Worcester counties with an intensive academic experience that helps foster a love of learning and achievement.
5K Hero Run for Wor-Wic to be held Oct. 7
The Wor-Wic Community College Foundation is sponsoring a 5K Hero Run or 2-mile walk, along with the 2023 First Responder Team Cup Challenge, on Saturday, Oct. 7, at 9 a.m., at the college campus on the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury. Check-in and registration begin at 8 a.m.
Wor-Wic’s spring dean’s list announced
A total of 395 Wor-Wic Community College students have been recognized for superior performance by being named to the dean’s list for the recently completed spring term.
Heller scholarship benefits from event proceeds
Wor-Wic Community College recently received a $6,240 donation in memory of Deputy 1st Class Brian K. Heller for the endowed scholarship in his name.
Ocean City-Berlin Optimist Club promotes youth achievement
The Ocean City-Berlin Optimist Club recently donated $40,000 to fund scholarships for Worcester County students up to age 21 who are attending Wor-Wic Community College.
Hoy recognized for community college service
Members of the community recently gathered at the Wicomico Youth & Civic Center to celebrate Dr. Ray Hoy, president of Wor-Wic Community College, ahead of his retirement this summer. Hoy has led the college for 23 years and will remain as president until his successor, Dr. Deborah Casey, starts on Aug. 14.
Law enforcement class graduates
Thirty-six law enforcement officers from Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Dorchester, Talbot, Caroline, Allegany and Queen Anne’s counties graduated in the 90th entrance-level class of the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy (ESCJA) operated by Wor-Wic Community College at the corner of Route 50 and Walston Switch Road in Salisbury.
Wor-Wic holds 21st annual golf tournament
Wor-Wic recently held its 21st annual golf tournament at the college’s Ocean Resorts Golf Club in Berlin. Proceeds from the tournament totaled $36,000 and will benefit the college’s on-campus child development center.
Shore Leadership honors Wor-Wic leaders
Shore Leadership, a leadership development program for executives and senior managers on the Eastern Shore, recently honored two employees of Wor-Wic Community College. Dr. Ray Hoy, a co-founder of Shore Leadership and president of Wor-Wic, received the 2023 Founders Award. Dr. Bryan Newton, vice president for enrollment management and student services at Wor-Wic, earned the Leader of the Year Award for 2023.
