IEC Apprenticeship Program
We have partnered with IEC Chesapeake to offer an electrical apprenticeship program. During the day, apprentices work for local companies in the electrical field and earn while they learn via on-the-job training. Two evenings each week, apprentices are in class from September through May. To participate in these courses, each apprentice must be employed by a partnered company and have permission from the supervisor.
If you have successfully taken our “Electrical Wiring Technician: Introduction” course and are interested in the IEC Apprenticeship program, please contact Dr. Rhonda W. Banks at rbanks@worwic.edu or 410-334-2867.
The Powerline Worker Pre-Apprenticeship (PWPA) with CDL program is fully funded by the Maryland Works for Wind grant. We have partnered with the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC). Acceptance into the program requires data and information upfront, during the grant, and up to six months after the program finishes.
There are two parts to the program: A 13-week, full-time (M-F from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. including a one-hour lunch) PWPA program with an additional eight-week, full-time CDL course. Each applicant who moves forward after the final interview will be required to pass a background check and DOT drug screening. OSHA 10, First Aid/Medic and ATSSA (flag) certifications can be earned. There is a PWPA graduation ceremony where family, friends and local co-ops/companies are invited to celebrate. In addition, the co-ops/businesses will be planning to hire graduates.
To apply, visit Quality Staffing Services and scroll down to the Training Programs section. For application questions, call 410-742-2600. For program specific questions, contact Dr. Rhonda W. Banks at rbanks@worwic.edu or 410-334-2867.
