SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW is a 372-hour Stick, Flux-Core, MIG and TIG program designed to provide the entry level welder with the skills needed to get a job in the welding industry. This 19-week-long program runs from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Students become proficient with safety, blueprint reading and using hand tools, power tools and machines. Utilizing the AWS Dl.1 Structural Welding Code, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Flux-Core Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding and Gas Tungsten Arc Welding skills are learned and practiced in the 2G, 3G and 4G positions. Successful students may earn up to 12 welding qualifications and may be hired prior to or soon after the graduation ceremony.
Welding SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW is funded by the EARN Maryland Grant Program, administered by the Maryland Department of Labor. To be eligible, students must work and/or live in Maryland in the welding industry upon completion of the program and provide wage, employment and other information to Wor-Wic and Quality Staffing Services as a part of grant reporting. Please note that students must provide personal protective equipment at an estimated cost of $100.
